Conceived by the visionary duo Hung-Sheng Chu and Pei-Wen Hsu, 'Rewind' is more than a residence; it's a sanctuary that harmonizes the contrasting desires for privacy and openness. The designers ingeniously crafted a 'time difference' within the space, allowing the host's need for seclusion to coexist with the hostess's love for expansive views. This bespoke retirement abode is a masterpiece of modern style, where hidden doors and sliding panels transform the space to suit varying contexts, blending natural stone patterns and strategic lighting to evoke the seamless flow of time and space.
At the core of 'Rewind's' allure is its ability to balance connection and independence. The design team's strategic use of hidden doors not only demarcates the social from the private realms but also infuses the communal areas with flexible design elements. This approach ensures that each space can adapt to the evolving needs of its inhabitants, offering a blend of connectivity and seclusion as desired.
The residence's aesthetic is anchored in the distinctive textures of the materials used. Neutral tones serve as a canvas for the designers to treat each surface as a monolithic element. The marble TV wall, with its undulating pattern, extends into the living space, while a titanium-plated metal grille discreetly conceals the lavatory. Symmetry is employed to accentuate the fluidity of the design, creating a sense of continuity throughout the residence.
Technical precision underpins the project's success. The apartment, located on the 27th floor, boasts an interior area of 245 square meters, meticulously planned to cater to the clients' preferences. The design team's custom solutions include a glass-partitioned study room, sliding doors that offer various spatial configurations, and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the living space with natural light and views.
'Rewind' not only addresses the aesthetic and functional aspects of design but also the operational intricacies. The kitchen, transformed into an open-plan space with an induction hob, complies with fire safety regulations. The master bedroom and adjoining L-shaped corridor have been designed to maximize storage space, reflecting the lifestyle and needs of the residents.
Completed in February 2023, 'Rewind' is a culmination of extensive research and creative problem-solving. The design team's efforts in overcoming challenges such as uniform floor height and the integration of a comprehensive lavatory system demonstrate their commitment to detail and functionality. The result is a home that transcends the physicality of space, offering a fluid environment that adapts to its occupants' emotions and experiences.
